Here are some strange and unusual laws that are still active and enforceable in Texas:

Selling your organs: According to the Texas Penal Code Section 48.02, it is illegal to sell human organs, including eyes, heart, kidneys, liver, lungs, skin, and other organs or tissues. However, you are free to sell blood and hair.

Owning the Encyclopedia Britannica: Texas outlawed owning the encyclopedia set because a volume contains the recipe for making beer. Being caught owning the set can technically result in fines and/or jail time.

No drinking while standing: In LeFors, Texas, it is illegal to take more than 3 drinks (sips or swallows) of a beer while standing up. The reason behind this law is not completely clear.

Don’t eat your neighbor’s garbage without permission: It is illegal to eat your neighbor’s garbage without their permission in Texas.

Flirting: Flirting with the “eyes or hands” is illegal in San Antonio, Texas. This law is enforceable for both men and women.

Wedding bells: Texas is a common law marriage state. Therefore, two willing parties (who are over 18, unmarried, and not related) are legally married if they publicly announce they’re married three times.

Regulation of sex toys: To this day, Texas can regulate how many sex toys you own. A 2008 court case decided that you cannot have more than six sex toys. You can have more if you’re selling them, but you’ll need a permit.

Adjusting your stockings in public: For anyone living in or visiting Dennison or Bristol, adjusting your stockings in public could lead to a sentence in the state penitentiary for up to a year.

No windshield but windshield wipers: While you don’t legally need a windshield to drive a car in Texas, it is illegal to drive without windshield wipers.

Barefoot walking permit: Anyone can walk around barefoot in Texas, but they must first purchase a $5 permit.

No confetti, firecrackers, or whips: The town of Borger, TX forbids the throwing of confetti, rubber balls, and firecrackers in city limits, although the reason behind this law is unknown.

Milking someone else’s cow:It might be tempting, but do not try and steal milk from your neighbor’s cow.  It is not allowed.  In Port Arthur, it’s illegal to emit obnoxious odors in an elevator:Let’s all cheer for this one.  It is actually against the law to make a bad smell in an elevator!  Hurray!
